Knitting, babies and work

Well, in reverse order, work has really picked up lately. It’s feast to famine so often when you are self-employed. I have finished a “couple”:http://leads4wah.com of “projects”:http://co-opleads.com and am finishing “another one”:http://liveharmonic.com up today. Then there is the really fun one – my “favorite LYS.”:http://www.FourLadiesNeedleArt.net I met with Pam yesterday and we are moving along on the site with great additions.

Then there are babies. I have always loved babies, as long as I can’t remember. What I mean is when I was 14 months old and “Mom”:http://livinglakeside.com brought my “baby sister”:http://www.moms-in-biz.com home and leaned down to show her to me, I grabbed the baby right out of her arms, assuming she was for me. That’s the memory I almost feel like I can remember I’ve heard it so much (I’m hope you have those types of memories, too) but I really can’t possibly remember it myself. I attached myself mutually to all the baby cousins I was around, and then started babysitting at a very young age. My “brother”:http://www.tweedfu.com was born when I was about 12, so I was one of his “mommies”, helping to raise (and spoil) him quite a bit. And then once I became an adult (barely) the only thing I knew for sure I wanted was a family, and couldn’t quite map out my plans so far as school/career/family and lo and behold was blessed quite suddenly with my first baby. I’m one of those types that feels the most natural and comfortable and secure, when I am holding a baby. It just feels – right. I was the weird one that hated to send them off to school (or anywhere for that matter). And we didn’t decide for sure when to stop having babies until my doctor told us that even though she loved our family (and I believe she did) that my body had been through enough with 2 c-sections and 3 vbacs.

Anyway, after making that short story long – I am out of babies in my life. As long as I was able to hold my sister’s or friend’s babies now and then, I was fine. So, does that explain why I am suddenly drawn to babies and baby things?

Well, anyway – here are the booties I finally finished to go with the hat and mitts I already sent for Kamryn (it took me a bit to find a stockinette/seedstitch pattern) from that same ball of Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino:

And the pretty preemie dress that I couldn’t resist at the store:

I’ve already warned Jill to be prepared for my spoiling of her “Kamryn.”:http://www.kamrynlily.com If I can’t hold one, I can still attempt to spoil one – with love, from a distance.

And more directly on the knitting front – “Mom,”:http://livinglakeside.com “Kim”:http://dkunruh.com/peanuts and I had a blast at the Super Bowl Knitting party at my favorite LYS – “Four Ladies Needle Art Shoppe”:http://fourladiesneedleart.net even tho we got there late, post-serious-headache, and the SeaHawks lost (sorry, “Debbie”:http://sternski.com/debbie ).
And blending with the baby stuff from above I picked up a couple of balls of Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino in the baby wine color, and this pattern to use it for:

I’m a mush-over when it comes to babies, and I’m experiencing a surgency of such.

Mom and I received an order we placed at “KnitPicks”:http://www.knitpicks.com the other day. Here is my “Knitting Olympics”:http://www.yarnharlot.ca/blog/olympics2006.html yarn:

The colors are hyacinth and violet – a VERY dark purple and a pinky-lavender. I’m planning to make a “Weasley sweater”:http://alison.knitsmiths.us/pattern_weasley.html with a big “*D*” on the front of it for the boohopper.

I was going to attempt the Fairly Easy Fair Isle from SnB Nation, but I figured I’d better do an easier sweater first, so that one will be my second.

Now, here’s where you can help. I have the main color, as you can see, and 4 contrasting colors – but I was only supposed to get 3. I was trying to decide and apparently I didn’t, I accidently ordered the 4 I was trying to choose 3 from. Which of the 3 do you think would look best?

The main color is Tide blue. The contrasting color choices are, from top left to right: Grape (lavender), Pool (light blue), Lettuce (light green) and Cranberry (dark red).

Mom and I joined the local knitters last night at Starbuck’s and it was a great time. There were some really great gals there (Hi “Chris”:http://chrisknits.blog-city.com and “Lea”:http://www.kneedeepinfibers.blog-city.com/ ). We plan to try and knit out with them more often.
