So a friend referred me to 1 & 1 hosting .
I’m skeptical, but after some research, I am going to try it out so I can offer an opinion.
The offer on the table is free 500mb’s of hosting for 3 years (offer expires 1/14/03), and after 3 years you have the option to switch to one of the hosting packages starting at $5 a month. They also do domain registration for a mere $5.99 a year.
Now, I have my own web hosting, (even tho my website isn’t setup, LOL), that I do for myself, friends, family and clients, that has an EXCELLENT support system (the one I go to for support, not me, I’m not that vain). But this company’s angle is that they are spreading from enterprise to consumer-level (small business/personal) business and this is a ‘word-of-mouth’ type promotion. I’m big on word-of-mouth, which is why I love being able to research things on the internet. So, I found nothing terribly bad about this company and I’m trying them out. I hope to be in the market for bigger things so far as hosting eventually anyhoo, so the research wouldn’t hurt there.
Anyone with any experience with 1&1 or 1 and 1 web hosting?
I’ll let you know how it goes with me.
I’m going to put my photolog on a domain there, more details soon.
I signed up for this. I can’t resist “free”. I thought my son might use it for something or I might use it as a testing site. I don’t think I’d trust it for my permanent site location though. I hope they prove me wrong but I just can’t trust something I didn’t pay for. So far I haven’t encountered anything shady. The Control Panel is a bit unconventional though, but seems to work ok.
