Anyone else know Chisanbop?
I learned it in the 6th grade, and it’s stuck with me.
I hadn’t remembered the name of it, but I recently used it when counting beads.
Like I commented on Christine’s weblog, where I found the reference to it, I mostly use it when I feel too fritzed to count in my head or I’m counting a LOT of things.
[As I typed this post I was listening to: Rachel Loy singing The Same Man (For Matthew) (Acoustic Version)]
Chisenbop!
I had learned some of the Chisenbop years and years ago. I now have children of my own, and would love to be able to teach it to them—- especially the multiplication applications. Alas, I’ve forgotten all of that except for multiples of 9. Do you remember anyof the multiplication applications, and if so, to please please please send it to me? My kids are special needs and this would be extremely helpful. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Serena,
Chisenbop is an old Korean way of counting & doing math problems using your fingers, similar to using an abacus. There is a web page that will give you a tutorial, even with a little movie that demonstrates it! Kids will still need to have a basic concept of how numbers relate to each other. Have fun!
