Worsted, Swatches, and 2nd Repeat

So, remember that lovely Finn roving that we bought from the farm that we reserved fleeces from for Spring 2007? (Before we had our own sheep even.) Finally, after all of the farm hoopla, I managed to spin 2 bobbins full for plying.

And then, amazingly enough, I plied it into what will from here on out be known as my first worsted weight skein. It measures up at about 12 wpi, is 190 yards and weights 2.4 oz.(68 grams). This all qualifies it for worsted weight! Now granted, I’m still new at this, so it’s not all worsted, I’d venture to say that small spurts of it are closer to Aran or Bulky while on the other hand there are spots that are closer to DK or sport, but kind of smooth transitions. And it all everages out to worsted weight. Now what will I do with this lovely stuff?

In between things, I’ve been swatching for the “Mystery Stole 2006.”:http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Mystery_Stole_2/ The suggested needle size is a 3, by the designer, “Melanie,”:http://pinklemontwist.blogspot.com and she says she’s a loose knitter (like me) so I tried it on size 2 and size 4 US needles. I don’t currently have possession of my size 3′s. As you can see below, a size 3 would probably be the best. But due to lack of a size 3, I think I’m going to go up instead of down, and use the size 4. Any input on this from you lace knitters out there? This is my first real lace weight project, so I’m open to any help possible.

And then there are the “Yukon Leaves Socks.”:http://www.woolandwood.freewebspace.com/yukonleaves.htm They just seem to be going so slowly. More because of lack of attention than the actual knitting, I think. But I finally made it past the second pattern repeat. Though it doesn’t appear that they’ll be done for this month’s “Sock-of-the-Month”:http://knittinmom.blogspot.com/2006/01/sock-month-knitalong.html goal.

The lambs seem to be doing fine, seperate from the ewes. Nicci’s been working with the Romney Ram Lamb that she’ll be showing in the fair in a couple of weeks, and doing very well with it!

Otherwise, life is going on – summer is here, _the man_ is home, on vacation, and getting plenty done that he hasn’t had time for, and spending time with us with is *SO* nice. I hope everyone is enjoying their summer!

  1. That’s got to be the best swatch I’ve seen yet for the Mystery Stole 2. Thanks for posting it. The eyelets don’t bleed off into the stockinette around it. It looks crisp and pretty. Go with the size 4.
