Sock-a-month 2006 and New Baby

I just joined the “Sock-a-month 2006 knitalong.”:http://knittinmom.blogspot.com/2006/01/sock-month-knitalong.html I figure I could use the accountability and encouragement since I have so many socks I want to knit. I still have my koigu pair on the needles and have done a few more rows, but not much more than pictured in the previous entry.

And I’m not sure these really count, since they are _so tiny_ but I did cast on a pair of wee baby socks for a special little one born this past weekend to my dear friend Jill in Canada. The yet, unnamed, but tiny and strong little girl, wasn’t due to join us in this world until April, but because of life-threatening conditions for Jill, she is here, and thank God, so is Jill. Both Mom and baby are doing well, all things considered, but it will be a long road ahead for them.

I had planned a sweater for the baby (among other things) and cast on, for it (since, uh, hello, baby was born and sweater is not started, let’s get going!) yesterday, after a VERY rough weekend (not as rough as Jill and baby’s, but I was very ill with a horrible, horrible, nauseating headache that would not go away) and after one repeat of the pattern on the back section, I realized, that this baby would not wear this sweater for a very long time. So not-so-much the rush as I thought. Logic prevailed, and I cast-on “this pattern”:http://www.valleycafe.com/knitting/sock-pattern.html but I am doing it on smaller needles (size 3, two-at-once, magic-loop) and hoping for a more _preemie_ size.

That’s my thumb, to show how tiny they are – and I hope they are, after all, it is so hard to imagine how tiny they really need to be.

I can’t tell you how my heart has ached to be up North, with Jill, if nothing else, just to remind her that it’s all going to be all right, some how, some way.

  1. You’re all signed up for the sock-a-month knit-along. And hey, socks are socks, even if they’re tiny! All the best to your friend and her dear little one. I hope everything turns out okay for them!
